Normanville, just outside Cape Jervis
DAY 07
Today I woke up grateful not just for the miles ahead, but for the simple gift of a dry morning and the ability to keep going.
Day 07 greeted me with light cloud, 20°C, and no rain. It might sound small, but some days those things mean everything.
Location: Normanville, just outside Cape Jervis the gateway to Kangaroo Island.
I rolled out early at 7:30am, letting the road decide the rhythm of the day. The miles unfolded slowly and beautifully, carrying me through places that remind you how big the world really is:
Guichen Bay Conservation Park…
Butcher Gap…
Paranki Lagoon…
The wide, raw openness of The Coorong, where silence speaks louder than words.
Crossing the Murray River on the Wellington Ferry was one of those quiet moments — the kind where you stop thinking and just feel. The water moving beneath you. Time pausing. Perspective shifting.
From there it was up and over Mount Compass, on toward Cape Jervis, and finally into Normanville tired, full, and thankful.
Gaynor didn’t get the choice to stop when she was in pain.
There were no easy days. No pullovers. No pauses when things hurt.
So when the road gets long…
When my body aches…
When the wind pushes back…
I ride on. I drive through.
Because this journey isn’t about comfort.
It’s about remembrance.
It’s about love.
It’s about honouring someone who kept going when stopping wasn’t an option.
Every mile carries meaning.
Every tough day has a purpose.
And every sunrise reminds me why I’m here.
